Mom

Mom

Mother’s Day has always been one of our favourite holidays, for obvious reasons. Moms are true unsung heroes, always sacrificing their time and energy for us, and rarely asking anything in return. So it feels great to be able to dote on them for a change. Whether it’s a breakfast in bed from little ones, a brunch out, or even just spending some time together, it’s the one day where moms truly get the recognition they deserve.

But this year, Mother’s Day has taken on some added meaning. Shortly after we launched Bluebird Aprons last year, our mother was diagnosed with cancer. It was a lot to take in all at once- helping her through surgery and treatment, while also trying to start a business certainly wasn’t easy but it also proved to be a bit of a blessing. Helping us with the business gave mom something to look forward to when she wasn’t able to do much else. She’s a self-taught businesswoman, so her advice was invaluable. However, she also got herself an embroidery machine and mastered it in order to help us keep up with personalized orders. It really became an escape for her, and for us too, to be honest. Her health was obviously our priority but having a distraction was welcome for everyone.

So as we near this Mother’s Day, we’ve been reflecting a lot on the past year and all that it has brought. While there are certainly things we would change, one thing that we’re completely grateful for is that our mom, our biggest supporter, has been with us every step of the way.
